Job Description:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Systems Engineering Team Lead provides technical support and direction in the planning, design, component selection, prototyping, testing and documentation of electrical and hydraulic and control systems for mining utility vehicles. The successful candidate will take the lead in designing, improving and expanding our electrical and hydraulic architecture throughout the Kovatera product line as part of the R&D team. In addition, you will become our subject matter expert on our existing BEV line of products and work closely with our vendors to deliver these products in the field.
Additional to being hands on, as the team leader you will manage, coach and provide technical direction to your direct reports. These direct reports will be Electrical Technologists and Hydraulic Specialists.
Job Duties:
- Perform and or mange the selection and design of electrical and hydraulic systems to interface controllers to peripheral devices such as vehicle lighting systems, engine control, data acquisition devices, AC panels, compressors, motors, camera systems, etc.
- Create and or oversee, detailed wire harness solid-models, BOM’s, electrical and hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness production drawings.
- Ensure established best practises for routing and securing HV cables, LV cables, bonding cables, and wire harnesses are followed.
- Oversee or participate in programming and testing PLC, CAN bus and HMI systems.
- Supervise the upload, download and trouble shoot PLC and HMI programs and other related software used in all aspects of vehicle operation.
- Action and or manage document improvement opportunities in electrical designs using established processes (ECR/NCR).
- Perform and or manage the design and manufacture special aftermarket harness assemblies and sub-assemblies that are vehicle / customer specific.
- Occasionally troubleshoot peripheral device and control system malfunctions on production equipment, reworking and repairing found deficiencies as required.
- Occasionally undertake data analysis and analyze/summarize information collected from data logging equipment.
- Support production with build issues and troubleshooting.
Required Skills:
- Graduation from an Engineering / Engineering Technologist Program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience in design, interpreting, updating, and cataloguing of engineering drawings, equipment layouts/schematics, specifications.
- Experience with CANBUS and Ethernet network design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with and knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and a variety of interfaces (USB, CANbus, etc.)
- Familiarity with ERP programs, work order systems, etc.
- Experience utilizing a variety of computer software programs such as 3D parametric solid modelling, AutoCad Electrical, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook etc.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with design or service of industrial / off-highway BEV machines.
- Familiar with ISO, ANSI, CSA, and other country specific electrical safety regulations as required.
- Experience with electrical system design for off-highway vehicles. Experience with underground mining mobile equipment would be ideal.
- Experience working with CAN J1939 and LIN communication protocol and their application software tools.
